This FAQ will introduce you to the main features of QuickServer
Let’s first discuss some concepts:
Channels associate a processing Preset (created in QuickDesk), with folders and processing settings. Hot Folder Channels are the most common, and there are four folders that each channel can assign for these Channels:
- input – this is the “hot folder” that is watched by the Hot Folder Processor. All images (and folders of images) added to this folder will be processed
- output – this is where the corrected files will be places
- rejected – any invalid images that cannot be processed are copied here
- originals – (optional) copies of the un-edited original files are placed here
Select a channel in the main Channel list to see its settings in the right toolbar. Make changes to those settings, then click “Save Settings”. If you forget to save, it will prompt you when changing channels.
There are more Channel settings in that right toolbar, but we’ll discuss those a little later.
QuickServer will setup the necessary folders on your computer for you for the default, example channels we provide. If the folders get deleted from your computer, QuickServer will attempt to re-create these automatically.
Each Channel has a status, shown in the left column of the Channel list. The icon on the far left can be used to start or pause channels, and the checkbox for ‘Auto-start’ tells QuickServer to start this channel automatically, when QuickServer is first run. You can also click ‘Start All or Pause All’ at the top:
Here’s what the various Channel Statuses mean:
- Paused – The channel is paused, the hot folder is not being watched and no processing will happen
- Running – Processing will happen as soon as images are added to the input folder
- Waiting – This channel requires a Trigger File before processing starts, and a trigger file is not yet detected. As soon as a Trigger File is added, processing will begin
- Invalid – Something is wrong and this channel cannot run. It might be that the Preset isn’t found, or the channel folders don’t exist and can’t be automatically created.
OK – now we’ve got a channel up and running, so let’s add some images and do the processing! I’ll click the folder icon next to the input folder to open up that folder, then I’ll paste in a folder containing a job I want to process:
So, for the simplest use, that’s all there is to it! Now you can drop as many images or jobs as you want to into the input folder to integrate this into your existing workflow.
