Creating, Organizing and Backing Up Your Presets
A preset is simply a combination of adjustments, or a recipe, that’s been designed to solve specific problem. You can save your own presets as well as easily modify built in ones using the Adjustment controls. Presets are a great way to get the recommended adjustments for your image. Simply choose a preset that best matches your image’s subject.
While presets are useful, remember they are really just a starting point. Presets cannot be combined or “stacked”, but they can be modified. Choose the one that solves most of your problems and then customize it with the Adjustment controls. You can then make your own presets to apply combinations of your favorite adjustments
To Create a preset is easy. Simply use an existing preset and customize the controls or start from scratch. Once the sliders match your preferences its time to create a preset. Consider using options like the Automatic Strength Selection and Face Aware Exposure options to make a preset more useful.
At the bottom of the Adjustment controls, click the Plus icon to Save the current settings as a new preset. You can also click the button labeled Add or edit a preset at the bottom of the Presets chooser.
A new window opens. Enter a Preset Name, give it a descriptive name that’s easy to understand. Very long names may be cut off in the toolbar.
Choose from any of the loaded User Preset groups or enter a name for a new group.
Click to choose an icon from the list to help you find this preset later. You can also choose the ABC icon to use the first letter of each word of the preset name as the icon.
Enter in a useful description for the new preset. This will make it easier to find and use the presets when working in Perfectly Clear.
Click OK to store the new preset. That’s all there is to it! Now, you’ll see that Preset in the presets panel. It will be in a “User Preset” group, unless you had already selected custom Preset Group before saving the preset.
If you want to make a new group to hold presets, that’s easy. Just click the Add a group button. Enter the group’s name and click the plus button to add it. Do not press the Return or Enter key when adding the name.
You can easily move presets between groups. Make sure the left panel is open to view the Presets List. Open up any group you want to modify and just drag the preset you’d like to move into the new Group. Note you can only move User Presets, and you can only edit the contents of User Groups. The presets provided by Perfectly Clear cannot be renamed, moved, or deleted.
However, you CAN choose a system preset and then modify it. Just save that as a new preset. This allows you to easily add that preset to any User Group.
Making a custom group is a great way to customize the top toolbar. Just put your favorite into a custom group and you’ve now your own favorites just one click away. You can even use the shortcut keys 1—0 on the top of the keyboard to access your 10 favorite presets even faster.
If you want to modify a user preset, start by selecting the Preset you’d like to modify. Now make any changes that you’d like to with the Adjustment controls. Click the Add a Preset button at the bottom of the Presets panel. Choose to save the preset with the same name and in the same group, and it will replace the previous preset.
If you want to remove a preset, just locate it in the Presets list. Hover over the Preset or Group you would like to delete. A white ‘trash can’ icon will appear.Click the trash can icon to permanently delete the selected Preset or Group. In the pop-up window click Yes to confirm the deletion of the preset.
Be careful though, deleting a preset cannot be undone. Instead of deleting presets, it might be safer to create a new Preset group and move Presets you think you might want to delete into this group. If, after a while you realize you still need that preset, you can open up that Group and get it back.
If you want to backup or share presets, that’s easy. Just select a group of presets or an individual preset. Then click the Export Presets button to create the file. Navigate to a location on your drive. These presets can also be shared with other users. Simply copy the preset file to another machine. When ready click the Import Presets button and navigate to and choose the desired presets.
Additionally, you can click the Buy Presets button to explore for sale presets created by photographers and artists. New ones are released periodically.
