Letter From the President 2024

Dear Perfectly Clear community,

As we reflect on the journey of the past year, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude for all that team Perfectly Clear and our customers have achieved. 2024 has been a year of growth, innovation, and continual refinement. Let’s reflect on the year and also look ahead to the exciting opportunities that await us in 2025.

People - Our Greatest Asset

As a growing team now 34 strong, it’s always with great pride that we continue to expand the Perfectly Clear family. One of our core values is to innovate and push the boundaries of what’s possible.  It’s our talented team of AI experts, mathematicians, physicists, photographers, developers, and passionate solution architects that make this possible. The Perfectly Clear team is spread out over 12 different countries and too many time zones to count!

This year I’ve had the pleasure of welcoming  6 new people:

Alexander joined our team in January, is based in Serbia, and brings over 13 years of expertise in C++ development. In his spare time he enjoys hiking, participating in intellectual quizzes, team sports, and playing the guitar.

Anastasia is based in London, UK and brings product management expertise as we broaden our technology stack.  She is a former professional figure skater, so you might see her out on the ice on a cold day!

Cole has a background in marketing and psychology and joins us in Charleston as our Business Development Representative. Outside of work, Cole is a die-hard supporter of the Kansas Jayhawks, his alma mater.

Mark joins us to lead our sales and marketing team and brings 17 years of sales experience in the school portrait photography industry. Residing in the shadows of the majestic Canadian Rockies, he indulges in his passions for skiing and snowboarding during the winter months, while embracing paddle boarding and wake surfing come summer!

James is our Solution Architect in Europe, based in the UK.  James is a seasoned print industry veteran with extensive experience in production, process & product innovation and over 30 years industry experience, most recently as Group Technical Innovation and Production Director at the Storio (PhotoBox) group.  Outside of optimizing photos, he can be spotted whizzing around on his motorcycle!

Jennifer – keeping the books balanced is key to continued growth and innovation and we are pleased to have added Jennifer to the finance team in Calgary, Canada.  She honed her skills in financial management and office operations in Hong Kong, and now enjoys watching fencing tournaments where her daughter competes!

Innovation at the Core

Throughout our journey, our core mission remains unwavering: to craft efficient and accessible technology that empowers your business with a competitive advantage – whether saving money and time, or increasing revenue, or allowing you to scale while increasing consistency, our continuous innovation is designed with your needs in mind.

We’ve seen a wave of excitement from our customer base with the launch of our AI Skin Tones to deliver accurate and eye pleasing results. But don’t take our word for it, watch what Matthew Jordan Smith has to say:

To enable you to monetize further with a single image, we’ve launched automatic Background Removal:

Perfectly Clear is also 10-30% faster and available on the ARM platform.  Learn more about this and other technology updates here:

Our real time video solution also made its way to the end user, as a Plug-in and stand-alone called Color Genius:

Tired of manually removing glare from glasses?  Then you’ll be very excited to check out our Automatic Glass Glare removal, coming soon in early 2025!

Our commitment to research and development remains unwavering. We have increased our R&D investment by over 20% this year, with a focus on AI, married with classical algorithms that also run on-prem, and cloud computing with basically zero downtime.

As an employee owned, bootstrapped company, we strive for operational excellence and re-deploy our cash back into R&D where over ⅔ of our people are focused.

Inventing leading edge solutions isn’t easy – it requires brainstorming, smart people, and lots of caffeine.  This year the R&D team met in Istanbul for a week of intensive creation.  Here’s an exclusive behind scenes look at the team in action:

Reaching new heights

As we look to 2025 and beyond, the future holds tremendous promise.  Perfectly Clear has expanded from land (powering the largest printers, school photography companies, and theme parks in almost every country), to powering image quality on the most respected cruise ships on the sea, to a new test mission in space – stay tuned for more!

Our roadmap is crafted with your needs in mind – thank you for sharing with us during the year. What else would you like to see?  What are your current pain points? One of my pleasures is understanding how we can best help you and spending time understanding your needs.

This year I had the special privilege of meeting with many of you in Tokyo, London, Krakow (Poland), Amsterdam, Germany, France (special thanks to my 12 year old daughter who did the translation and parlez-en-francais for me!), United States, and Barcelona – where I also was lucky enough to be invited to watch the America’s Cup on an electric boat with a partner:

Lastly, I also want to express my gratitude for your ongoing business and support. We’re a passionate and still relatively small team of 34 doing what we love. We exist because of you, for which I have never-ending gratitude, and something I never take for granted.

Please reach out to me anytime with your thoughts, suggestions or to chat about the industry, or to go for a cycle, we’re here to help.  If I’m not at the office, then I may be cycling – here I am in Spain and my backyard – the Rocky Mountains:

Let’s continue to innovate, grow, and shape the future together.  Wishing you and your family a very festive holiday season!
